State-by-State Snowfall Reports
At 8 p.m., by the looks of the radar, snow was reaching Philly. But in reality (remember that radar sometimes lies) it's just now beginning to hit the ground in western Pennsylvania (see the 8 p.m. surface plot from our Pro site; "S" means snow).
This is really the East Coast's first big winter storm and the folks over on the WeatherMatrix discussion boards are hyped. Here are some snowfall ranges based on government spotter reports so far:
Illinois: 3-6"
Iowa: 1-6"
Indiana: 1-4"
Michigan: 0-4"
Ohio: 1-3"
Kentucky: 0-3"
Wisconsin: 0-3"
Minnesota: 1-2"
The Northeast is plastered with severe winter advisories tonight (see advisories map (PREMIUM | PRO).

P.S.: There's nothing scarier than a meteorologist carrying a 50-lb. bag of rock salt through Wal-Mart, but that's what I was doing about dinnertime. Predictions for our area range from 4 to 10 inches and I'm not taking any chances.
