Snow trading is here

Flakes are starting to fall and TradeWx.com is ready for traders.

What is TradeWx.com? TradeWx, pronounced ‘trade weather,’ is a site devoted to trading contracts on different types of weather events, offered by CX Futures Exchange, L.P. (“CX”), a United States regulated derivatives exchange. CX® provides an expanding set of financial products relevant to individuals and small businesses to obtain protection against financial risks of snow accumulation and other weather events.

TradeWx provides access to the CX weather market to allow you to trade the results of different weather events. Some weather events are large, while others are smaller, but the overall objective of TradeWx is to allow you to either hedge financial risk that you may incur based upon weather events or speculate on the weather.

TradeWx allows you to easily trade simple contracts on these different weather types. In August, TradeWx offered hurricane landfall trading. Now, just in time for winter, you can trade snow on TradeWx.com.

With as little as $1 you can place a trade on snow.

How do I trade?
  • Pick the city and date where you would like to predict snowfall.

  • Choose the depth you think those flakes will stack up to without going over.

  • Enter the amount of money you would like to trade and submit.

  • The results are made available the day after the date you predicted.

  • Payout amounts vary based on how close the prediction is to the actual snowfall amount, without going over.

Here is an example:

If the actual snowfall amount in a particular location is 3.5 inches and a trader had predicted 3 inches of snow (which is the closest option), the trader will receive a maximum payout. If they had picked 2 inches or less, they would get a smaller payout. If they had picked 4 inches or greater, they would get a nominal payout.

How do payouts work?

  • The traded funds for each city and date combination goes into one pool and is divided proportionally among those who made correct predictions

  • Traders will be rewarded more for being closer to the actual snow amount without going over

  • Trading for a day further out in time gets cheaper each successive day, leveling off at 7 days out

You can register online today for a CX TradeWx account. Funds deposited into TradeWx accounts can be used to trade CX's weather products for as little as $1. Find out more on www.TradeWx.com now!

If you would like to hone your skills prior to trading with money, you should play Forecaster Challenge, a weather trading simulation game provided by CX and powered by AccuWeather data. You can even earn up to $100 by playing the game which can be used towards trading on TradeWx.
