Mardi Gras 2018 celebrations to contend with damp, humid weather
A group of 18-wheelers got stuck on I-70 in downtown Saint Louis the night of Jan. 11 due to icy conditions on the highway. The drivers found a helping hand in the form of a Chevy pickup truck driver.
Sunshine will be hard to come by during Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans this year as cloudy, humid weather conditions cling to the Gulf Coast.
While the Carnival season began on King’s Day in early January, celebrations peak this Tuesday.
After a chilly January, temperatures have been running well above average in The Big Easy so far this month.
After temperatures failed to reach 60 degrees Fahrenheit for Lundi Gras on Monday, it will turn milder for Fat Tuesday.
A high temperature in the middle to upper 60s F is expected.
“Weather conditions should turn out to be okay for Mardi Gras on Tuesday in New Orleans, though a front nearby will help keep clouds around and could produce stray showers during the afternoon,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Jordan Root.
Heavy rain and lightning sent spectators rushing for cover at Endymion on Saturday, but the parade completed its full route.
While parades will usually march through light rain, thunder and lightning are grounds for halting the celebration.
“Clouds on Tuesday night will prevent temperatures from falling too much so folks can expect a mild night as well.”
