Here is a list of severe weather updates, listed in eastern time, about the severe weather outbreak.
The first tornado ratings are being issued as the NWS begins to conduct damage surveys. The tornado that hit East Chattanooga, Tennessee, has been given a preliminary rating of an EF3 with estimated winds of 145 mph.

A severe thunderstorm capable of spinning up a tornado is just west of Baltimore, and could pass dangerously close to Ellicott City, Maryland. People in this area should seek shelter immediately.
A large portion of the mid-Atlantic is now under a tornado watch (maroon), with a broader section of the Northeast under a high wind warning (gold). Winds of nearly 80 mph have already been reported today. The watch includes over 25 million people across parts of Delaware, Washington D.C., Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia until 6 p.m. EDT, Monday.
Nearly 200,000 customers are currently without power in the regions, according to PowerOutage.us.
Reports of heavy winds have poured in throughout the South and Mid-Atlantic as the severe system moves its way towards the East Coast. Here's a look at the top wind speeds recorded thus far.
The city of Walterboro, South Carolina says emergency response agencies are working to clear debris and ensure everyone is safe. The city was under a tornado emergency early Monday morning. "We are asking that everyone who can please stay in place. Stay off the roadways and away from power crews as they are also working to remove debris and restore power," city officials said "All city offices are closed until noon."
Drone footage from the Monroe, Louisiana, Fire Department shows extensive damage around the city, where over 300 homes were damaged. Despite the catastrophic damage, Monroe Mayor Jamie Mayo said only a few minor injuries were reported in the town.
Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards declared a state of emergency on Sunday and is expected to tour the tornado damage on Monday. “Sunday’s severe weather impacted multiple parishes in Louisiana, with reported tornadoes and large hail. I am declaring this emergency in order to make sure the parishes that are impacted, and any additional areas that may see severe weather into the night, are able to get assistance from the state."
According to the NWS in Charleston, South Carolina, there is confirmed damage in and around the town of Walterboro. Numerous trees and power lines down and several structures are damaged due to "likely tornado damage."
A large and dangerous confirmed tornado was was located over Givhans, South Carolina, moving to the northeast at a speed of 55 mph.
Severe thunderstorms are bearing down on portions of North Carolina. A line of severe storms currently stretches from Charlotte to north of Greensboro, North Carolina. The latest Tornado Warning issued by the National Weather Service includes Winston-Salem and Greensboro and is valid until 5:30 a.m.. The affected population is over half a million.
Tornado-warned storms have advanced into Virginia. The National Weather service issued a Tornado Warning for Martinsville and the surrounding areas until 5:30 a.m.. The affected population is over 69,000.
Murray County Fire Chief Dewayne Bain reported five fatalities as a result of severe storms in Chatsworth, Georgia. Bain reported a majority of the damage was associated with two mobile home parks in the county.
Severe storms have erupted over northwestern South Carolina. Several tornado warnings have been issued by the National Weather Service. The most recent warning encompasses Greenville and surrounding areas until 4:15 am EDT. The affected population is over 450,000.
A tornado watch has been issued until 11 a.m. EDT on Monday across parts of South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The affected population is over 6.7 million.
A line of severe storms is tracking into the Florida Panhandle. A tornado warning issued by the National Weather Service and is valid until 2:45 a.m. CDT. The warning affects a population of just over 9,000.
A series of tweets from the Chattanooga Fire Department reported substantial damage east of the city from a suspected tornado in Tennessee.
A tornado watch has been issued until 8 a.m. EDT on Monday across parts of North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. The affected population is over 4.8 million.
A line of severe thunderstorms with a history of prompting tornado warnings is tracking across northern Georgia. The most recent warning was issued by the National Weather Service for Cartersville and is valid until 1:30 a.m. EDT, affecting a population of over 36,000.
A tornado watch has been issued until 7 a.m. EDT on Monday across parts of Alabama, Florida and Georgia. The affected population is over 12.1 million.
Tornado warnings have moved their way into Tennessee, with the most recent warning being in Cleveland. The warning from the National Weather Service is valid until 12:00 a.m. EDT and affects a population of over 80,000.
The Executive Director of Jones County Emergency Operations Center (JCEOC), Paul Sheffield, reported one fatality in Jones County, bringing the death toll in Mississippi up to seven after tornadoes tore through the state.

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MSEMA) announced three fatalities in Jefferson Davis County, bringing the death toll in Mississippi up to six after tornadoes tore through the state.
After tornadoes struck Monroe, Louisiana, AccuWeather's Bill Wadell took a firsthand look at the aftermath. "We are seeing a lot of roofs ripped right off the houses," Wadell said. After the tornadoes hit, Wadell said rain and wind continued in the area as families tried to salvage what they can of their homes.

Two more deaths were confirmed after the severe weather outbreak in the south. Both deaths were confirmed in Lawrence County in Mississippi, The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MSEMA) announced.

Collins, Taylorsville and Mount Olive, Mississippi are under a tornado emergency until 6 p.m. CDT. The National Weather Service said it is a life-threatening situation. Anyone in the area should seek shelter.
Parts of Alabama, including Montgomery and Birmingham, are under tornado watch until 12 a.m. CDT on Monday, due to multiple strong tornadoes being expected in the area. Also expected in the area is strong winds of 70 mph and hail the size of apples. 2.8 million people could be affected.
The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center has reported 10 tornados so far on Sunday, located in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi. Reports say the tornados have caused destruction to homes, vehicles and power lines.
The tornado emergency in Mississippi has now reached Laurel, Ellisville and Sharon, Mississippi. The emergency is in effect until 5:30 CDT, and could effect a population of over 68,000 with a damaging tornado and life-threatening conditions. Take shelter immediately in you live in this area.
A life-threatening tornado is heading toward Collins, Seminary and Bassfield, Mississippi. Take shelter now if you live in the area.
Monroe, Louisiana, Mayor Jamie Mayo said early reports indicate the tornado that struck the town caused only minor injuries. However, many buildings took a direct hit. “Many neighbors & friends suffered catastrophic damage. We are hurting, but not broken,” Mayo said on Twitter.
A tornado warning is in effect in McComb, Magnolia and Summit Mississippi until 4:15 CDT. Take shelter if you are in the area.
Power outages have been rising in states across the south since Sunday morning as the severe storms ramp up. More than 40,000 customers are without power in Louisiana, along with 18,596 outages in Texas, 5,354 in Mississippi, and 4,808 in Alabama.
Inmates are trying to help stop flash flooding with sandbags at an apartment complex in Como, Mississippi. Flooding was also reported on Highway 51 and West Oak Ave in Como.
North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper urged North Carolinians to prepare for power outages and severe weather overnight in a press release he sent on Sunday afternoon.
"North Carolinians are already following Stay-At-Home orders for the coronavirus, and now it’s also important to prepare for strong storms and possible power outages,” said Governor Cooper. “Be sure to follow weather conditions closely on Sunday and Monday, and have a way to receive severe weather warnings.”
All flights Monroe Regional Airport are “canceled until further notice” after a suspected tornado causes significant damage at the airport. Planes appeared to be tossed around as the severe storm blew through around midday Sunday.
Yazoo City, Mississippi, is under a Tornado Warning until 2:00 p.m. CDT. If you are near this area, take shelter.
Reports say a tornado hit 8 miles southeast of Stonewall, Louisiana, in De Soto county. Additional reports say a tornado struck 2 miles southeast of Marshall, Texas.
Tornado potential is increasing across northeastern Louisiana spreading into Mississippi. Power outages continue to mount as the severe storms track across the south.

Major damage has been reported in Monroe, Louisiana, after a Tornado Emergency was declared for the area. One mile northeast of Monroe, the Quachita Parish Public Safety radio reports 20 homes are damaged in a subdivision. Damage is also being reported behind the Monroe Coca-Cola Bottling plant and at the airport. The airport reported wind gusts up to 70 mph at 11:46 a.m. CDT.
There is a Tornado Emergency for Swartz, Monroe, Fairbanks, and Sicard, Louisiana. If you are in these areas, take cover now!
A new tornado watch has been issued for parts of Arkansas, Louisiana and Mississippi. This is a "Particularly Dangerous Situation." A few intense tornadoes are likely in this area, as well as very large hail and significant wind gusts up to 80 mph.
A Particularly Dangerous Situation tornado warning has been issued just southeast of Shreveport, Louisiana. This storm has a history of producing a tornado.
A tornado has reportedly touched down 10 miles west-southwest of Waskom, Texas. If you are near this area, take cover immediately!
Reports say lightning struck a house in Flint, Texas. There are no reports of injuries or fatalities at this time.
A Tornado Warning is in effect for Tyler, Kilgore, and Whitehouse, Texas. There are reports of street flooding in and around Tyler, Texas, as well as reports of power outages in eastern Texas. NWS Shreveport urges residents to never drive around barricades.
The use of shelters and other resources during severe weather takes precedent over social distancing orders, Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey announced. "Our state stands prepared and ready to face whatever Mother Nature brings, even amidst a health pandemic," Ivey said. "The safety and protection of Alabama lives is paramount."
Severe thunderstorms tracking through central Texas have prompted a tornado warning for the western and northern suburbs of Waco. Heavy rain, frequent lightning and strong wind gusts are also expected as thunderstorms repeatedly track over the same locations. Flash flooding could become a concern should thunderstorm activity persist.
Numerous severe thunderstorms have exploded across portions of West and central Texas. Damaging wind gusts, large hail and torrential downpours are likely just a sign of some of the things to come this Easter Sunday.
Baseball- to softball-sized hail was reported in Del Rio, Texas, late Saturday evening. Damaging winds, hail and severe weather will ramp up and continue across the South into Sunday night.
The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for parts of Texas, including San Antonio, Austin and other cities. Over 4 million people could be affected by the severe weather. The NWS warns that along with many tornadoes being likely, hail the size of apples is also likely.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, the NWS issued a tornado warning for Haskell and Rule, Texas, including a threat of lime-sized hail.
