Dramatic video captures fishermen and dog on a boat survive EF3 tornado
Two men and a dog on a small boat drove through the eye of a tornado at Stanolind Reservoir in Winnie, Texas.
A fishing trip turned into a harrowing ordeal for two men and their dog when they were caught in a powerful tornado at Stanolind Reservoir in Texas on Dec. 28.
Brian Johnson captured the intense footage showing him, his friend and his dog on a small boat as the wind intensified. “We were fishing and got caught up in a tornado,” Johnson told Storyful. “We went through the eye of the storm yet by His Grace, God delivered us.”
Initially, the storm can be seen off in the distance but it changes its course and quickly overtakes Johnson and his friend, Tony. The two struggle to anchor in the reeds to ride out the storm, but the boat eventually flips.

"I'm holding on to the boat 'cause I'm holding onto it from the bottom now 'cause the wind is just ripping," Johnson told ABC13. "And I'm like, 'It's gonna pick me up out of this water any second.' So I'm trying to hold on, but I can't find Tony. So I'm hollering for Tony, and now I'm thinking, 'Oh my gosh, my friend is dead. He's drowned under this boat or something.' So I'm pulling on the boat, trying to lift it up. I'm hollering for him, beating on the boat, and nothing."
Tony was hiding underneath the boat. The two boaters and Johnson's dog were not hurt.
Severe weather produced multiple tornadoes in Texas, which have gone on to cause widespread damage to homes and businesses throughout the Lone Star State on Dec. 28.
The National Weather Service confirmed that an EF3 tornado struck Chambers County with peak winds of 138 mph. The tornado injured one person and snapped multiple utility poles.
Several tornadoes touched down across the southern United States over the weekend, killing four people and leaving a trail of destruction.
