Rain Teases, Forecasters Wipe Brows
The rain from today's low pressure system got really close to State College, PA, home of AccuWeather HQ last night, then shied away. Fortunately, our forecasters predicted no rain here, but I'm sure there was some brow wiping this morning.
Check out the city-level radar capture and animation above (large Quicktime movie, drag timebar for superfast animation) to see the rain tease our city. The information was saved off from our AccuWeather.com RadarPlus service.
While forecasting general movements of rainfall is easy these days, pinpointing where the rain/no-rain line will be is still difficult. "Mesoscale" (small-scale) geographic features often come into play in these situations (which most of the weather forecast models are unable to detect at their scale).
The storm system will slowly move off to the Northeast today (and tomorrow), eventually removing some of the clouds from our skies.
