Elliot Time-Lapse Webcam
If you haven't seen Elliot Abrams' time-lapse frontal passage movie from last week, please take a look. It is really neat. Elliot lives at the base of Skytop Mountain here in State College, PA and as a result gets some really wild cloud shots. His Macintosh iSight camera records an image every few seconds and loops them. Normally webcams, especially ones this small, are not acceptable for sky footage, but the quality on this little guy is impressive.
Of course the resulting movie is huge (I saw the full-size one, way cool :)) and there is no way to tie it real-time to the Internet. But our techs here at AccuWeather reduced the file size and put this one online for him.
To see it, access Elliot's Blog (PREMIUM | PRO). He says:
I compiled a time lapse movie before during and after a cold frontal passage at my house. As you watch, the view is toward the northwest. You will see about an hours' worth of low clouds streaming northwestward, then a line of thunderstorms comes through and reverses the flow. However, outflow from the retreating thunderstorm takes over and we can see low clouds streaming in from the northeast. Finally, the main front arrives and soon it starts to clear a bit.
