30-Second Satellite Imagery
My Awesome Buddy Scott @ SSEC [JessePedia] posted an awesome animation of GOES-13 Satellite Rapid Scan Operations (SRSO) mode imagery on his blog yesterday. When the satellite goes into SRSM, it takes a photograph of the clouds every 30 seconds (as opposed to the usual 15 minutes).
It stayed in SRSM all day, beating the previous test that lasted 10 minutes long. Click on the image on his blog to see the Quicktime movie (save it to your desktop from the link if it doesn't play in the browser). NOTE: The "shadows" you see in eastern Alabama are caused by the hills in that area [Google Map].
