Popular BREW® Application Puts Complete Mobile Weather Center at Users' Fingertips
(State College, PA - March 14, 2005) - AccuWeather.com, the New Media division of AccuWeather, Inc., The World's Weather Authority™, announced today the launch of Premium v3.0 Wireless weather. This downloadable application for mobile phones, developed for QUALCOMM'S BREW solution, builds on the extensive features of AccuWeather.com's existing Premium Wireless product by providing a comprehensive array of weather information at users' fingertips in an easy-to-use format. To see a demonstration of Premium v3.0, please stop by the AccuWeather.com pod in the QUALCOMM booth (#2631, Hall C) at CTIA Wireless 2005, March 14-16 at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
Premium v3.0 Wireless weather provides users with comprehensive and accurate weather information in a portable format. Based on AccuWeather.com's already successful Premium Wireless application, the new version incorporates additional, enhanced features, such as:
- "Zoomable" radar, satellite and precipitation maps that allow users to zoom-in within a 50-mile radius for every zip code in the United States. Each image is sized to fit mobile phone screens, allowing users to get the information that is relevant to them no matter where they are - or where they are going.
- Exclusive 10-day forecasts that offer the most in-depth and range of weather information on any wireless weather application. Now wireless subscribers can have a more complete picture of how the weather will affect their plans for travel, outdoor work and leisure.
- AccuWeather.com's patented RealFeel® Temperature provides users with a realistic expectation of climate and outdoor temperature so they can choose appropriate clothing and outerwear.
- AccuPOP™, a patent-pending tool that enables users to see the probability, amount and type of precipitation predicted for a specific time period, so that their plans are not ruined by unexpected rain, snow or ice.
- Storm Center, which provides the most accurate and useful information on the intensity and probable paths of storms, allows users maximum time for storm preparation or evacuation.
Convenience and portability makes Premium v3.0 Wireless weather the most user-friendly mobile weather application currently on the market. Designed with the mobile phone user in mind, the application incorporates numerous features created to make accessing customized weather information easier, including:
- The proactive FirstWarn™ feature that can save a user's life and property by automatically sending severe weather alerts to the user's phone as emergency alerts are issued. This feature eliminates the need to search for severe weather warnings.
- FirstCast™ which acts as an alarm clock with the day's weather forecast, enables users to receive weather and driving condition information so that they know what to expect even before leaving the house.
- Allowing users to set their home page to show the data they need most, whether it be radar, satellite, or 10-day forecast information. Shortcut keys also help speed navigation throughout the application, allowing users to jump from radar to satellite to current conditions in a flash.
- The ability to save multiple locations by zip code, postal code or city/state (province) names, allowing users to easily check weather forecasts and conditions for more than one location of interest.
- An array of extra features, including Spanish-language capability, Canadian weather data and the ability to view measurement units in English or metric format.
- Readily available health information such as UV, humidity, pollen and air quality indices so users can take steps to protect their health and that of loved ones.
- The flexibility of these features, combined with the extensive weather data for worldwide locations, offers users a complete set of tools for business and travel planning on the go.
Additionally, Premium v3.0 Wireless offers co-branding capabilities by integrating partners' logos and messages into the weather information, thereby generating media revenue from each subscriber who signs up through a partner. For example, a TV station could add its logo to the splash screen and headers at the top of each page, so when a subscriber signs up for Premium v3.0 using the station's unique partner code, the station would receive revenue as long as that subscription is active.
"Premium v3.0 offers one of the best weather applications available for wireless in a user-centered format enabled by the BREW solution," said Jim Candor, senior vice president of new media for AccuWeather.com.
