How to stay active during pregnancy

Staying active during pregnancy generates a lot of concerns for women. How much weight will I gain? Will I find it challenging to keep myself in good shape? Instead of this, women should maintain a reasonable fitness standard with modifications.

Staying active during pregnancy is highly essential because it helps prevent health complications. There are several reasons for staying active during pregnancy is so important. The most obvious of all the reasons is that it will be easy to keep your weight under control. Also, you will be excluded from various health issues that are common with women during pregnancy.

Third Trimester

During pregnancy, there are three trimesters. They are the first, second, and third trimesters The third trimester is the last stage before delivery. The third trimester covers the entire period of 29 to 40 weeks of pregnancy. At this stage, the baby’s growth will be fast in the mother’s womb. The baby’s body weight will increase at a higher rate. The most vital parts of the baby will grow into maturity. It is during this third trimester that the entire respiratory system will be fully matured.

Exercise During Pregnancy

Exercise during pregnancy is essential because it improves muscle tone, builds endurance and increases strength, which will allow the mother to carry the weight gained during the pregnancy and also keep her fit for the physical challenge that accompanies labor. Exercise during pregnancy makes it easier for the mother to regain her shape after delivery. Lastly, exercise during pregnancy gives you a better appearance which promotes your self-image.

A pregnant woman should consult a physician before embarking on any exercise activity. Pregnant women should consult their physicians to know the kind of activity to avoid. For example, pregnant women should avoid the following exercise activities.

  • Activities with a risk of falling: Women who like working out regularly before pregnancy should be careful with their exercise routine. Events with a chance of falling, like running or using an elliptical machine, should be avoided.

  • An exercise that can lead to trauma: Pregnant women should avoid activities that involve flying objects or sports, which may lead to blunt contact.

  • Activities that impact breathing: Pregnant women should avoid lifting heavy objects and scuba diving because this type of strain disrupts breathing. Irregular breathing can restrict the supply of oxygen to the baby in the womb.

  • Pregnant women should avoid activities that involve standing and lying for an extended period: Any activity involving lying on the back, such as sit-ups after the first trimester. Also, all activities like motionless standing should be avoided by pregnant women until after the baby's delivery.

While some expectant mothers may want to take it easy during pregnancy, there are still many ways to have fun.

Fun Things to Do During Pregnancy

  • Raise your feet: Although this sounds unreal, it is real. Raising your feet on the sofa does not only help to get the much-needed sleep but also prevents the risk of having swollen ankles.

  • Have sex: Sex boosts health during pregnancy, reduces the effect of stress and lowers the risk of blood pressure.

  • Laugh: Attend a live show or discover how funny your friends and neighbors are.

  • Hang out with your spouse: Going on a date with your spouse during pregnancy will let you know how special you are to your hubby and how much he cares for you. You’ll be treated like a baby.

  • Take a stroll: A gentle-paced walk improves circulation and reduces stress. Let it be more romantic by taking a route with high lookout points- a nice arena for stealing kisses and taking breaks.

Benefits of exercise

The benefits of exercise during pregnancy are enormous, except for those who have critical medical complications which excludes it. Otherwise, a regular exercise routine has a range of positive effects that benefit both the child and the mother. Light exercise like walking and swimming for more than 30 minutes a day can help you get a night of restful sleep and increase your energy. The more active you are during pregnancy, the better you will be able to handle your daily activities and lessen the likelihood of gaining excess weight. Staying active during pregnancy is highly significant because it helps you to overcome the pains and aches that accompany pregnancy.

If you experience any pain or difficulty with these exercises, stop and consult your healthcare provider.
