Events are the lifeblood of a society. They are occasions that gather people together united in a common theme, cause or celebration. Events bring people together to pay tribute to their heroes, to raise awareness of a cause or to witness history in the making. Events can be as simple as a child's kindergarten graduation or as dramatic as the Super Bowl. It doesn't matter what your preference is or even if it is constantly evolving. What does matter is that you are "experiencing" something that will give you great satisfaction and a lifetime of memories.

Since 1978. Call it the festival within the festival. The Jalapeño Festival Sponsored by La Costeña pays tribute to that most beloved of Laredo delicacies, the potently spicy little jalapeño pepper. The WBCA™ Jalapeño Festival has given fans some of their most memorable concert experiences. The late Tejano queen, Selena, delivered what many call her best Laredo performance back in 1995. It was certainly a show for the ages. Trisha Yearwood thrilled country music fans while Grammy winners, Grupo Fantasma brought the house down with their impressive live set. The WBCA™ Jalapeño Festival Sponsored by La Costeña also features the Miss Jalapeño contest, where women vie for the right to preside over this year’s festivities. Other fun contests will thrill audiences, including the waiter’s race, the grito contest and the immensely popular tug-of- war. But, it’s the grand-daddy of them all, the La Costena Jalapeño Eating Contest that holds court. Die-hard contestants travel from as far away as the Big Apple to test their gastronomic endurance to determine who can down the most jalapeños in what may seem like an eternity—15 minutes. The record number of jalapeños eaten, set 21 years ago, stands at 141. Will that record finally fall this year? Sizzling fajitas, menudo, pozole, hamburgers, cotton candy, gorditas, flautas and those ever-popular funnel cakes along with an ice cold beer create the perfect combination for the hottest nights in February!
