Winter storm to whip Upper Midwest with up to a foot of snow, wind this weekend
Following a storm that brought snow Thursday night, another snowstorm will threaten travelers across the Upper Midwest through Saturday night.
The most recent storm brought a general 3-6 inches of snow and slippery travel from central Nebraska to the northern parts of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan into early Friday morning.

Snow plows and shovels are not getting much of a break.
Snow will continue to spread northeastward and increase in intensity across the Upper Midwest through Saturday night.
In some areas, the snow is following freezing fog that glazed surfaces on Saturday morning.
Motorists with travel plans along Interstates 29, 35, 90 and 94 should expect delays and difficulties this weekend as a result.
Flight delays are likely and cancellations are possible at Minneapolis, where the snow is forecast to begin later Saturday afternoon and continue into Saturday night.
While a general 3-6 inches of snow is forecast from the storm, heavier amounts on the order of 6-10 inches (15-25 cm) are likely fromcentral Minnesota to northwestern Wisconsin, northeastern Minnesota, the western part of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the northern shore of Lake Superior in Ontario.
"The snow will come down heavily at times, quickly clogging roads and leading to difficult travel and poor visibility for motorists," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski said. "It is not out of the question for thunder to be heard amid the snowstorm in and around northwestern Wisconsin."
"Some drivers who must travel amid the snowstorm could become stuck in the snow for a time."
As the storm strengthens, winds are projected to increase to the point where blowing and drifting snow will be substantial.

To the south of the heavy snowfall, an icy mix will glaze untreated roads, sidewalks and elevated surfaces from Iowa to Michigan.
Even though no significant snow is forecast for Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit, winds may be strong enough to lead to flight delays on Sunday.
The same batch of air that will bring a several-day break in the rain in areas experiencing flooding in the Central states will bring a pause in the snow from the central Plains to the Upper Midwest during the first part of next week.
However, a new storm may spring up during the middle and latter part of next week, possibly bringing another opportunity for snow in parts of the Midwest.
