Tropical Storm Marty Lingering
Tropical Storm Marty continues to hang on over open waters west-southwest of Baja California. As of 8:00 a.m. PDT, Marty was located near 21.2 north and 115.2 west, or about 375 miles west southwest of the southern tip of Baja California. This tropical storm is moving northwestward at 7 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with higher gusts. A new flare-up of convection occurred over Marty early Friday helping to keep this feature a tropical storm. However, Marty is tracking into drier air, cooler water and unfavorable wind shear, so it should gradually weaken over the next 24 hours. It will cause increased wave action and will impact the southern tip of Baja California Friday.
Elsewhere, an area of showers and thunderstorms off the Mexican coast is being caused by a developing area of low pressure about 150 miles southwest of Manzanillo, Mexico. It is moving to the west-northwest at 10-15 mph. Upper level conditions are becoming more favorable for strengthening and waters are warm in it's path so it could become a tropical depression or perhaps a tropical storm over the next couple of days.
