Rumbia Weakening Over Land
Tropical Rainstorm Rumbia is weakening over land in Southeast China and is expected to dissipate by Wednesday.
Rumbia made landfall Tuesday morning local time near the city of Zhanjiang as a tropical storm with maximum sustained winds of 57 mph (92 km/h).
According to data obtained by AccuWeather.com, Zhanjiang received 4.38 inches (111.25 mm) from Rumbia along with maximum sustained winds of 38 mph (61 km/h), which occurred close to the time of landfall.
Widespread storm total rainfall amounts of 1-3 inches (25-75 mm) were observed at many other locations along the China coastline.
Even as Rumbia weakens, concerns for flooding will persist as the storm may still be responsible for bands of heavy rain that can quickly overflow rivers and streams.
Rumbia will expand a heavy rain and flooding threat into northeastern Vietnam Tuesday night local time as it continues to advance northwestward. A total of 2-4 inches of rain (50-100 mm) is expected to fall.
