Potent storm spawns tornado, triggers flash flooding in Spain
As powerful storms pushed through the Spanish province of Malaga on Aug. 26, a massive tornado spun up near the town of Campillos. The storms wreaked havoc across the region, with hail and flash flooding being reported in several communities.
Severe weather was unleashed across Spain on Monday and Monday night as thunderstorms produced flooding rainfall, hail and a large tornado.
Madrid was ground zero for some of the worst weather as downpours caused flooding across the city.
"An unusually strong storm system for this time of year crossed the Iberian Peninsula triggering the severe weather," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys.

A total of 25-50 mm (1-2 inches) of rain reportedly fell across the city, triggering widespread flooding.
Large hail, up to the size of ping-pong balls, was reported in the area and enhanced the flooding which swept cars and other items down typically busy streets.
The Madrid metro system faced delays and cancellations while flights were diverted at the city's Barajas international airport, according to El Pais.
More than 9,300 lightning bolts were reported in the skies near Madrid on Monday, according to Aemet.
The nearby town of Arganda del Rey was one of the hardest hit, as residents had to use shovels to clear the streets of hail following the storms.
The same storm system that caused the severe weather in Madrid also produced a tornado in southern Spain on Monday.
The town of Campillos was struck by the tornado resulting in some damage. The town is about 80 km (50 miles) from the coastal city of Malaga.
Calmer and cooler weather returned to Madrid on Tuesday.
"A return to hot and dry weather is forecast for Madrid from Wednesday into the weekend," said Roys.
