Bouts of locally heavy rain, storms to target Northeast into the weekend
While the weekend will not be a total washout, even in the rainiest spots in the northeastern United States, a series of storms is forecast to continue to slice through the region.
The unsettled weather this weekend will interfere with some ballgames, college graduations, backyard projects, travel and other outdoor springtime activities. However, there will be a swath where rain manages to stay away for the most part.
From Saturday to Sunday, another storm system, following on the heels of Friday's storm, will spread rain and thunder back into the mid-Atlantic.
The storm over the weekend will track farther south than Friday's and at a somewhat slower pace. The slow movement can result in locally heavy rainfall and poor drainage area flooding.
Most of the rain will begin toward the evening hours on Saturday across the central Appalachians, including Pittsburgh. Rain will continue overnight Saturday before ending Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, in Philadelphia, the most likely time for drenching rain will be during the overnight hours on Saturday into Sunday morning.
Farther north, in New York City, aside from a stray shower, much of Saturday and Saturday evening are likely to be free of rain. People in the Big Apple can expect occasional rain and drizzle on Sunday.

Rain is likely to stay away from much of New England and the Hudson Valley of New York state during the day Saturday.
Rain from this storm will likely bypass the northern parts of New York state and New England even on Sunday.
The weekend storm will be the caboose in the storm train.
Following the saga of rain for the central Appalachians, the mid-Atlantic and southern New England this weekend, a period of dry weather is in store from Sunday night to Wednesday in many areas.
As spring progresses into summer in the coming weeks, AccuWeather's long-range team is projecting that this summer is likely to bring significantly warmer and drier conditions when compared to last year.
