Arctic air to freeze Kansas City as Chiefs, Patriots clash in AFC championship game
While the Ice Bowl in 1967 is perhaps the most famous cold weather NFL playoff game, since the turn of the century there have been several other notable games played in frigid conditions in recent years.
Sunday has turned out to be a frigid day in Kansas City as fans fill Arrowhead Stadium to watch the AFC championship game.
The New England Patriots will travel to Kansas City to take on the Chiefs on Sunday night. Kickoff is set for 6:40 p.m. EST.

With a Super Bowl appearance at stake, both teams will have to fight against cold weather as well.
Temperatures will drop from the lower 20s to the upper teens for the evening hours. Brisk conditions will hold AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures to the upper single digits and teens.
Travis Hogan, the head groundskeeper for the Chiefs, said on Twitter that the grounds crew had to resod the turf this week thanks to inclement weather.
The bitter, dangerous conditions will require both fans and players to protect their skin from frostbite.

Just before the divisional round against the Indianapolis Colts last week, a storm dropped snow across the Kansas City area. The stadium was cleared in time for the game thanks to overnight workers.
The snow was so intense that Jeff Allen, a guard for the Chiefs, got stuck in the snow on his way to the stadium before the game.
A good Samaritan, unaware that he was a player, helped him dig out his car. The player tracked down the man on social media and thanked him with tickets to Sunday's game.
