Tens of thousands of flamingos packed into a lake in Navi Mumbai, India, on April 22, as a lockdown continued in the area due to COVID-19.
As dry and seasonally warm conditions persist across parts of India, storms that arrived in northeastern areas early last week expanded farther south and west through the weekend.
Moisture from the Bay of Bengal will continue to fuel the stronger storms in northeastern India and Bangladesh. These strong storms will bring more widespread and persistent heavy rain on top of strong wind gusts and frequent lightning.
Large and damaging hail may accompany some of the strongest storms.

"Kolkata, which had a hot, dry first half of the month, has picked up showers and thunderstorms in recent days," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Dave Houk said.
"They will remain in the risk area for daily downpours through the rest of the week, with the clouds and rain keeping temperatures in check."
"Showers and storms can produce 150-300 mm (6-12 inches) of rain in many areas through early this week," Houk warned. "An AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 500 mm (20 inches) is possible in the hills of northeastern India."
This amount of rainfall can lead to areas of flooding across northeastern India and Bangladesh, and will increase the risk for mudslides in the mountainous terrain.
A westward shift in the pattern will cause afternoon showers and thunderstorms to develop farther west.
In spots across far northern India, like New Delhi and Lucknow, increased amounts of showers and storms will pop up through early this week.
Any thunderstorms that develop can produce brief downpours, gusty winds and frequent lightning strikes.
Thunderstorms are expected to be the strongest from the afternoon into the early nighttime hours.
Wet weather will also try to expand across southern India as northern areas remain active due to the persistent passage of storms.
Moisture is forecast to increase along the eastern coast, causing showers and storms to spread farther south along coastal areas.
Across southern India, moisture will also increase. Showers and thunderstorms that are typical across Kerala will spill over into Tamil Nadu, and a few showers or storms may reach the residents in Chennai.
A storm track far enough north will help to keep the rest of India dry with temperatures near normal as COVID-19 lockdowns continue.
Normal April temperatures across India range from the lower 30s C (lower 90s F) near the coast to around 40 C (lower 100s F) in interior locations.
Storminess in northern India and along the eastern coast can linger in to the middle of the week, and AccuWeather forecasters say there is no major change in the weather pattern on the horizon.
