How warm was June globally?
By Brett Anderson, AccuWeather senior meteorologist
Updated Jul 19, 2021 5:19 PM EST
June 2021 ranked in the top five warmest Junes on record globally with both the NASA and the NOAA GISS land/ocean combined surface temperature databases.
NOAA
June 2021 averaged 0.88 degrees Celsius above the 20th century average, making it the 5th warmest June on record globally.
This is the 438th consecutive month and 45th consecutive June that was above the 20th century average temperature for the globe.
In terms of landmasses only, June 2021 was the warmest June on record globally, averaging 1.42 C above normal. The old June record was set in 2019.
Last month was also the warmest June on record for North America, which is not a surprise with the all-time, record-breaking heat wave across the West. June 2021 also ranked as the second warmest on record for landmass in Europe and Asia.
NASA
June 2021 averaged 0.85 C. above the 1951-1980 mean for land/ocean surface, making it the third warmest June on record globally.
Last month was also tied for the warmest June on record with 2019 for North America.
