Facebook's Internet.org app now provides AccuWeather information and forecasts to the Republic of Colombia

AccuWeather Global Weather Center – January 14, 2015 –
AccuWeather, the global leader in weather information and digital media, is pleased to work with Internet.org, a Facebook-led initiative, as it makes a historic first launch in South America providing accessible and affordable internet services to the people of the Republic of Colombia. Free basic services through Facebook’s Internet.org app will be available to Tigo Colombia customers.

"We are excited to expand the Internet.org app into a new region by offering the people of Colombia access to useful basic internet services for free," said Chris Daniels, Vice President of Internet.org at Facebook. "By working with content partners, operators, and local governments we are making internet services more accessible and are providing people with information that can help them create new opportunities and improve their lives."

Tigo Colombia customers will have access to a set of free services offered through Facebook’s Internet.org app which includes a combination of global and local sites so users can browse useful information on weather, health, education, finance, employment, communication, and government services. As a key content partner, AccuWeather will provide innovative global weather forecasts and warnings with Superior Accuracy(tm) to benefit this audience.

"AccuWeather is pleased to continue our work with Internet.org through this historic expansion into South America. Together, we are making essential online weather forecasts and warnings affordable and accessible to people in Colombia,"” said Steven Smith, Chief Digital Officer of AccuWeather, Inc. "Whether protecting users' travel plans or guarding their property and safety, AccuWeather provides the power of accurate and localized forecasts that improve the quality of peoples' lives all over the world."

Facebook's Internet.org app offers a wide array of AccuWeather information including the current conditions, 3-Day, Weekend, Hourly, and 45-Day Forecasts. The free app also includes satellite images, weather news, and hurricane and tropical storm information.

Internet.org, a Facebook-led initiative, has the goal of making affordable Internet access available to the two-thirds of the world who are not yet connected, bringing to everyone the same opportunities that the connected world has today.

Facebook's Internet.org app launched on July 31, 2014. The app is available to Airtel customers in Zambia and Kenya and to Tigo customers in Colombia and Tanzania.

Tigo Colombia subscribers can access the Internet.org app through the Google Play Store or by visiting www.internet.org on a mobile browser. The service works on smartphones and feature phones.
