STATE COLLEGE, PA, March 21, 2008 - Joel N. Myers, Founder and President of AccuWeather.com, has acquired what is considered the world's largest collection of thermometers, consisting of more than 4,000 items. The collection, purchased from a private collector, is currently being inventoried while considerations are made for public display in a museum.

The extensive collection has been cited in the Guinness Book of World Records and by Ripley's Believe it or Not and contains an eclectic mix of thermometers of all types from the mundane to the extraordinary, including: an earring thermometer, rescued from a 1650 whaling ship. A thermometer from the Yukon which gauges temperatures down to -100 degrees Celsius. A pill-sized thermometer like the one swallowed by John Glenn in his 1998 mission. A model woman's shoe with a miniature thermometer sewn into the side (a prize from a Cracker Jack box). A 150-year-old thermometer embedded into a French woodcut. An 1887 thermometer designed to hang underneath a chandelier which is readable from all directions.

"Since I was a young boy, weather and weather forecasting have been my passions," said Myers. "This collection reminds one of the breadth and history of our desire as a people to understand and accurately measure weather conditions; a need that our free web site AccuWeather.com continues to serve to this day."

Myers has long maintained what may be the world's largest collection of antique barometers, part of which is on display at AccuWeather.com headquarters.

Myers intends to place his new thermometer collection in a museum for the enjoyment and education of weather and history enthusiasts. He is currently reviewing facilities appropriate for display of the collection.
