Rain Returns to Portugal and Spain
Spain and Portugal are typically quite dry during the month of August, and that was again the case this year.
Rainfall was nonexistent across Portugal and much of southern and western Spain during the month with only a few locations reporting less than 0.10 of an inch (2.5 millimeters)
A slow-moving low pressure system, currently near the Azores, will track east to northeast this week eventually spinning to the northwest of Portugal.
Rainfall could reach Portugal and northwestern Spain as early as Saturday with a better chance for rainfall across the entire region on Sunday and Monday.
While rainfall will generally be scattered and total less than 0.25 of an inch, it could mark the start of rain returning to the region for the autumn season.
