Record-Warm March Adding Insult to Injury
It has been well documented already of how dry this winter has been in California once again. The Sierra snowpack is virtually non-existent as well with only a few ski areas hanging on to skiing on snow patches that are left. This is likely to be a record-low snowpack year.
Adding insult to injury is how warm it has been as well. January was warm, February was even warmer and set records. March is now looking like it too will set records in some cities. Those that don’t make it will only miss it by a few tenths of a degree.
The chart below shows a few cities current average March monthly temperature and then the records for the month that I have found along with the year. This year's monthly average was as of midnight Thursday night.
Notice that Los Angeles is well ahead of the record at this late date in the month.
While temperatures are not going to be as warm for central and Southern California this weekend into early next week as the last couple of days, they will still be well above normal. High temperatures will be at least 7 to 10 degrees above normal this weekend and even warmer Monday.
