Snow, Ice and Wind Storm Blasts Manitoba
No, this is not a post from March or April.....
A potent Colorado low, which was responsible for the tornado outbreak across the U.S. Plains on Saturday has tracked northeast and met up with an Arctic front coming southeast from northern Canada. As the two met, rain changed over to sleet, ice and then snow over southwestern Manitoba on Sunday. The result of this was a few cm's of snow, ice accumulation on trees and power outages.
The map below shows the projected snowfall from Sunday p.m. into early Monday.
As of 7 pm Sunday it was still raining in Winnipeg (southeastern Manitoba), but cold air will continue to work in tonight and will change the rain to ice then snow with the potential for 2-5 cm of snow by Monday morning. Conditions will improve by mid-morning Monday.
The wind has been very strong across the same region today with many areas in southern Manitoba gusting to 80 km/h. The combination of the strong winds, ice accumulation has brought down many tree limbs in the region.
On average, Winnipeg only sees about 2cm of snow in May and that is usually during the first week of the month. In Brandon, that figure is about 4.5 cm. Clearly, this is a very unusual storm for mid-May.

I was out of the office Friday and Saturday with the family visiting Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, OH, which is one of our favorite amusement parks.
Our 7 year old daughter Camryn is now officially a coaster kid. She rode the 300+ foot (94 M) tall Millenium Force coaster, which is a family favorite. She was also just tall enough to ride the Gatekeeper, Magnum XL 200 and Maverick.
We stayed at the Breakers Hotel on property for the first time and they just completed a massive renovation. The hotel and the rooms look great and very modern now.

I on the other hand am not handling the twisty coasters as much as I used to as I get dizzy pretty easily now, especially with the corkscrew type turns. I still love Millenium Force though. That is still #1 all-time in my experience.
