AccuWeather provides Windows Phone users detailed and accurate weather information, including the new hyper-local MinuteCast now available for more global locations

AccuWeather Global Weather Center – August 20, 2014 – AccuWeather, Inc., the global leader in digital weather information, today announced it has launched a new version of its Weather for Life app designed for Windows Phone users. The app has several new, popular AccuWeather features, such as MinuteCast®, the leading minute-by-minute precipitation forecast for a person’s exact street address or GPS location. AccuWeather’s Windows Phone app is the first of its mobile apps to expand MinuteCast for more locations, including Japan, Ireland, United Kingdom, Canada, and the contiguous United States.

“AccuWeather is a great example of the kind of rich applications that people will find in the Windows Phone Store, taking advantage of the platform’s unique features such as Live Tiles and lock screen notifications, for instant access to the latest weather information,” said Todd Brix, general manager, Windows Apps and Store, Microsoft Corp. “With MinuteCast, AccuWeather is even more useful on Windows Phone, providing the most accurate hyper-local weather results.”

“Our Windows Phone app offers a wide range of the most desirable weather content including AccuWeather MinuteCast for more global locations than any similar attempt on the market,” said Steven Smith, Chief Digital Officer of AccuWeather, Inc. “We have a proven track record of collaborating with Microsoft to deliver global users mobile apps that meet the needs of the growing platform and our global user base. The app also now includes a transparent Live Tile and the AccuWeather Photos API for the lock screen. With this feature, the lock screen populates with a beautiful weather photo illustrating the location’s current conditions in just a glance.”

AccuWeather MinuteCast includes precipitation type and intensity as well as start and end times for precipitation. It gives users by-the-minute precipitation forecasts for the next two hours, set for their exact location, with the Superior Accuracy™ that is AccuWeather’s hallmark. The MinuteCast is uniquely supported by both location-based and MinuteCast patented technology.

In addition to MinuteCast, AccuWeather for Windows Phone provides severe weather alerts with automatic, push notifications in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Germany, and severe weather notices for all other locations. The app also offers accurate current conditions data, hourly forecasts for the next 72 hours, 15-day extended forecasts, and Live Tiles in three sizes for multiple locations that peek and automatically update the forecasts on the Start screen. Users also have the option of setting the app to launch to their current GPS location or to a favorite location.

AccuWeather – Weather for Life is available as a free download from the Windows Phone Store.
