UK to continue to escape cold shots aimed at eastern Europe into early week

While waves of cold air continue to take aim at eastern Europe, the pattern of above-normal temperatures will hold across the United Kingdom into the early part of next week.
France and the Iberian Peninsula will also further enjoy mild air filtering in from the Atlantic Ocean over the next several days.
By contrast, the bitter cold and snow have claimed at least 21 lives across central and eastern Europe in the past week. The burying snow has created a high risk of avalanches in the Alps.
High temperatures are expected to trend upward across the U.K. during this weekend.
The warmest locations on Sunday can anticipate temperatures to reach or surpass 10 C (50 F).

"Whilst actual temperatures will be above normal, gusty winds will prevent residents from enjoying the full extent of the mild weather across the U.K. this weekend," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski said.
"The winds may hold AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures closer to typical January highs each day."
Normal high temperatures throughout the country in the middle of January range from 5-6 C (41-43 F).
The winds will get kicked up as a series of Atlantic storms brings more unsettled weather to the region.
Occasional rain will accompany the gusty winds, which are not anticipated to reach the threshold of a windstorm. The mild air, however, will prevent any snowfall outside of the highest elevations of Scotland.
Showers will persist across northern parts of the U.K. on Sunday with the most numerous in northwestern Scotland.
Little change in the pattern is expected during the early part of the coming week as temperatures continue to average several degrees above normal.
Another disturbance can return more showers to northwestern parts of the U.K. on Monday.
A new storm is expected to sweep through around midweek with some rain dampening more of the British Isles.
Chilly winds in the storm's wake may trim temperatures back to more seasonable levels across the U.K. later in the week.
In the longer range, windstorms are expected to return to the U.K. from late January into March.
"A lack of true Arctic air will limit the risk for widespread snowfall from any of these storms; however, a couple of ice events are not out of the question," said AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys.
"Overall, we expect near-normal temperatures for the rest of the winter season across the U.K.," added Roys.
