Tropical Storm Conson turns slightly northeast
Tropical Storm Conson (08W) remains over mainly open water in the western Pacific. Meanwhile, we continue to monitor two other systems currently in the western Pacific Basin.

Tropical Storm Conson (08W) is located about 160 miles south of Minami Tori Shima. Conson took a bit of a northeast shift during the past 24 hours. Current movement is to the north-northeast at 17 mph. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph with gusts to 50 mph. A more northerly track is expected later today with a turn more to the north-northwest expected by this weekend. Conson is largely over open water. Most of the islands it will be passing by through the weekend are uninhabited atolls. Right now, it appears that it will maintain tropical storm status through the weekend. Guidance continues to suggest that it will affect the Kuril Islands by Monday, possibly as an extra-tropical low at that point.

Invest 92W has now moved inland over southeastern China and no longer poses any chance for development.
Invest 93W is located several hundred miles to the northwest of Guam. This is the area that computer guidance has indicated could develop into an organized tropical cyclone during the late part of this week. Conditions are favorable for gradual development of this system as it drifts east over the next couple of days, before turning on a more northerly track early next week.
Longer-range computer guidance is also indicating that there may be some additional tropical development farther east early next week.
