Strong Winds and Heavy Snow for Southeast


A storm center tracking to the east-northeast across southeast Europe this weekend will produce heavy snow from the southern Balkans across Bulgaria through southeastern Romania into central Ukraine from Saturday night into Monday. Snow will generally accumulate 4-8 inches (10-20 cm) with locally a foot (30 cm). There will be some isolated amounts of 2 feet (60 cm) in the higher terrain of Bulgaria.
Across northwest Europe, an approaching cold front with marginally strong winds will impact the parts of the British Isles Saturday night and Sunday. To the west of the storm over southeast Europe, strong winds from the north gusting 45-50 mph will occur along parts of the southern of France Saturday into Sunday. Bora winds from the northeast and north gusting to 45-50 mph will form along the Balkan coast on Saturday and expand to the west and south across Italy through the weekend. To the south and east of the storm, strong winds gusting to 45-50 mph will occur from southern Greece across the Aegean Sea into western Turkey Saturday and Saturday night. Southerly winds gusting to 60 mph will occur over the Aegean Sea and the west coast of Turkey Saturday night.




The combination of heavy snow and strong wind and will cause blizzard conditions and dangerous travel from far eastern Romania across Moldova into central Ukraine Sunday night and Monday.
