Showers, storms to continue pestering the Northeast through the end of the week

Northeasterners have experienced extreme heat and severe storms over the past several days. Luckily, the week is expected to end on a calmer note.

The Northeast will find itself in weather limbo to end the week, with no extreme heat or severe weather expected.

Temperatures and humidity levels will throttle back to close to average levels for the middle of August.

Farther north, however, a pocket of cooler air will settle over New England, according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Ryan Adamson.

Only spotty thunderstorm activity is expected in the northeastern United States into Friday.

"The most likely area for any showers and thunderstorms will be south of the Pennsylvania-New York border and west of I-95," Adamson said. "While a spotty shower or thunderstorm cannot be ruled out in the morning, most activity will occur in the afternoon."

Outdoor projects will need to be put on hold after Friday, as more wet weather is expected to overspread southern New England and the mid-Atlantic again this weekend.

As frequent showers and storms persist into early next week, localized flooding could again become a concern.

Those living along small streams and creeks should be vigilant, yet again, as water levels remain high following several weeks of downpours.
