Searing Heat
Temperature records across the West are likely to fall as a retreating jet stream allows searing heat to build across the Intermountain West this weekend. The building high pressure will push temperatures into the 80s and 90s before a pattern change returns cooler conditions next week.
Record highs will be challenged across Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, while highs in the Desert Southwest will soar into triple digits. The high temperature in the nation on Wednesday was 112° in Death Valley, Calif.
Temperatures along the coast will be somewhat cooler as a weak marine layer produces morning clouds and fog.
West Coast Expert Meteorologist Paul Yeager reports the intense heat will ease early next week as an onshore flow pushes cool, moist Pacific air into the Pacific Northwest.
