Snow will continue to expand from the Midwest to the Northeast on Monday.
Snowfall totals exceeded half a foot in some areas, including across southeastern Minnesota, southern Wisconsin, northern Illinois and Michigan. The system will continue into the Northeast through Monday.
As the rate of snow intensifies throughout the event, roads will quickly become slippery and snow-covered, and travel will become increasingly more treacherous.

As of 2:00 a.m. EST on Monday, moderate to heavy snowfall is being reported across northern and eastern Michigan. Roads are congested with heavy traffic mainly surrounding the cities of Flint, Ann Arbor and Detroit.
However, the traffic is not being attributed to car accidents. Low visibility due to falling snow is therefore more likely the culprit as local weather stations are reporting visibility as low as 2 miles throughout the area.
Visibility are expected to improve by rush hour as the storm continues eastward overnight.

Even with the end of precipitation in sight, freezing conditions throughout the Midwest will cause untreated roads to become slippery come rush hour.
Commuters should allot more travel time than usual and take extra precautions to drive safely on potentially slippery roads.
Heavy snow currently barreling through central Pennsylvania and into New England is causing travel delays as well.
Where interstates 79 and 80 cross in western Pennsylvania, significant snow cover is packed on the roads, according to PennDOT. Most roads in the northern half of the state are reportedly snow or slush covered.
The speed limit on Interstate 80, which spans the 330-mile wide commonwealth, has been lowered to 45 mph for the duration of this wintry event.
Morning rush hour in Altoona, State College, Scranton and the surrounding areas will consist of extended commute times due to the slippery roads. As temperatures rise above freezing through the morning, much of the state will have a changeover to rain, easing travel delays in time for lunch and the evening commute.
