Quiet in the Atlantic basin

Post-Tropical Storm Colin is racing across the northern Atlantic and to the south of Greenland. The cool front that picked up Colin extends to the southwest all the way across Florida and into the eastern Gulf of Mexico. Along this front is where we will watch for possible tropical development through the weekend. Global models show a couple weak areas of low pressure tracking along the front and staying to the south of Bermuda through the weekend. This means that heavy rain over parts of South Florida will continue into the weekend.
High wind shear extends from the central Gulf of Mexico across Florida to Bermuda and in to the northern Atlantic. Any weak area of low pressure along the front that crosses Florida and moves across the southwest Atlantic will encounter the strong shear which will prohibit tropical development through the weekend. Both the American and European global model models reflect this by keeping these features weak and strung out to the south and east of Bermuda later weekend and early next week.

Elsewhere, it is quiet in the tropical Atlantic basin and no organized tropical develop is expected through much of next week.
