The roads near Fresno, California, were covered in a dense fog on Dec. 27, that warranted warnings along the highway.
A small plane crashed in Lafayette, Louisiana, on Saturday morning shortly after taking off. While the cause of a small plane crash is still under investigation, conditions at the time of the incident in Louisiana around 9:22 a.m. CST were foggy.
Local officials have confirmed that there have been at least five fatalities, according to KATC, but further details are unclear at this time.
The privately-owned aircraft took off just a few minutes earlier from Lafayette Regional Airport, Louisiana.
Witnesses in the vicinity reported smoke coming from one of the engines of the plane on its way down. Power outages were reported in the vicinity.

It is not known at this time if the plane first struck objects before the smoke occurred, or if trouble occurred beforehand.
Wreckage from the plane was scattered from near the post office and Walmart at Feu Follet Road, near Verot School Road to an adjacent field in Lafayette Parish, Louisiana.

The twin-engine aircraft is believed to have had six passengers on board.
The visibility at the time of takeoff at the airport was three-quarters of a mile. Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) conditions were in effect. The air temperature was in the upper 60s F and winds were variable under 7 mph around the time of the incident at the airport.
