NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Cool air to chill parade goers on Saturday
Unseasonably chilly air will make layers a necessity for attendees of New York City’s famed St. Patrick’s Day Parade this Saturday, March 17.
One of the Big Apple's time-honored traditions with origins dating back to 1762, the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade attracts millions of spectators and hundreds of thousands of marchers each year.

While parade goers can leave the rain gear at home for this year’s festivities, they will need to layer up with hats, gloves, scarves and jackets before heading out the door, as temperatures will be near 30 degrees Fahrenheit early Saturday morning.
"The parade will start chilly with temperatures in the 30s, but the afternoon high will be up around 45 degrees F,” AccuWeather Meteorologist Brian Thompson said.
This will be slightly lower than seasonable levels for New York City, where the high temperature is typically 50 F on March 17.
A slight breeze will cause AccuWeather RealFeel® Temperatures to dip into the 20s during the morning hours, but revelers may be able to shed a few layers during the afternoon.
"Westerly winds will not be very strong overall, but even a slight breeze tends to get funneled and amplified in between the tall buildings," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski. "Pedestrians may have to find a spot away from the corners, where the wind is most likely to be stronger."
It will feel cooler in the shady areas among the buildings along the parade route.
Dry conditions will linger for celebrations that carry into Saturday night, with temperatures dropping into the 30s after sunset.
