Masters 2017: Warmth to build for Sunday’s final round

While it has been a stormy week in Augusta, Georgia, the 81st edition of the Masters will not face any inclement weather through the duration of the tournament.

Severe storms rumbled through Georgia on Monday afternoon, forcing Augusta National Golf Club to close for a time and disrupting practice rounds. Damage was reported throughout town due to the storms, according to Augusta.com.

Another round of severe storms threatened the Augusta area on Wednesday. Spectators, event staff and players were forced to evacuate the grounds during Wednesday morning.

Augusta National was later reopened around 12:30 p.m. EDT, before storms forced the course to close for the day around 1:20 p.m.

However, dramatically different weather is in store for the finale of the tournament.

Spectators heading to Augusta National for the fourth and final round of play on Sunday will want to take sunscreen with them as sunny weather moves in for the end of the tournament.

"Very nice weather is expected for the weekend with lighter winds and plenty of sunshine," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Bob Smerbeck said.

Temperatures will soar to around 80 F, making for the warmest day at Augusta since Tuesday. A typical high this time of year is 76 F.

The calmer winds should also make play a little less challenging than on Friday.

Ninety-four golfers comprise this year's tournament field and will battle to claim the famed green jacket. Play officially began when the first group teed off at 8 a.m. EDT Thursday.

"The course should play dry, hard and fast over the weekend with the sunshine, low dew points and no dew expected in the morning," Smerbeck said.
