Late-week downpours, cool blast to be felt from Melbourne to Sydney
Several Australian Army trucks navigated through deep floodwaters on March 26, while heading towards the town of Boodarie, Australia, to help assist in the evacuation of residents.
Areas from Melbourne to Brisbane will be at risk for heavy rain and thunderstorms into the weekend as a cold front slices across southeastern Australia.
Melbourne will be the first area to be impacted by the front; however, both Melbourne and Canberra will have rain and thunderstorms into Friday night.
A few showers and strong winds are expected on Saturday as much cooler air rushes into southern Victoria.
In Melbourne, temperatures could drop 10 C from those on Friday to a high of only 15 C (59 F) on Saturday.
A high temperature of only 14 C (57 F) is expected in Canberra on Saturday.
As the front progresses northward, it will interact with moisture from former Tropical Cyclone Trevor, increasing the risk for flooding from Sydney to Brisbane.

Rain and thunderstorms will arrive Friday night, bringing the risk for urban flooding. Thunderstorms will be capable of producing locally damaging winds and hail.
Rain will linger into Saturday morning, with clouds yielding to some afternoon sunshine.
A high temperature of 24 C (75 F) is expected on Saturday with much lower humidity and gusty winds.
The combination of thunderstorms and heavy rain may lead to some travel disruptions from Sydney northward to Brisbane.
Heavy rain and thunderstorms will hold off until Saturday in Brisbane, when there will be the risk for gusty thunderstorms.
Little change in temperature is expected from Saturday to Monday in Brisbane, with a daily high temperature of 26-28 C (78-82 F).
Eastern Australia may not be the only spot across the country threatened by heavy rain and thunderstorms in the next week.
A tropical low looks like it could develop over the Arafura Sea in the next several days on the northwestern side of the country. Should conditions remain favorable for tropical development through the weekend, chances of a tropical cyclone for next week would increase.
Given the location northwest of the Northern Territory, there is the potential that such tropical system could bring rain and wind impacts to coastal areas from Darwin in to the northern Western Australia coast near cities like Broome and Port Hedland.
