Dreary weather to dampen eastern US through late week

By Faith Eherts, AccuWeather meteorologist

With the exception of tropical weather, the Eastern Seaboard has so far experienced an unseasonably warm and mainly dry autumn.

However, the season’s first taste of prolonged dreary weather will linger in the region through Friday.

"Following warm and dry weather from Tuesday, a large part of the mid-Atlantic states will be unsettled for the balance of the week," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.

Sunshine is expected to prevail in central and northern New England while low clouds and episodes of drizzle occur farther south over parts of the central Appalachians to coastal areas from southern New Jersey to Virginia into Friday.

Static Friday NE

"The dry air from New England will make some southward progress and may be enough to allow some sunshine to peek out in New York City," Sosnowski said.

Conditions will also be unsettled at times int he Southeast states, rainfall will be more sparse from spotty showers and thunderstorms.

This dank weather will prevent temperatures from climbing much during the daytime hours. Highs will be up to 15 degrees Fahrenheit lower than they were earlier this week.

Where clouds prevail in the mid-Atlantic, temperatures will be no higher than the 50s and 60s. Farther south temperatures will remain above average with highs mainly in the upper 70s to the middle 80s.

By Saturday, temperatures are expected to rebound to above-average levels as drier, sunnier weather returns to the Northeast.

Static Sunday East

Warm and humid conditions will continue over the Southeast states.

Sunday is likely to be the warmer of the two weekend days in much of the East.
