Cold air to set the stage for weekend snow across northern Germany
Cold air holding firm across northern Germany will set the stage for nuisance, accumulating snowfall to start this weekend.
Cold air from Russia settled into northern Germany earlier this week and will remain in place through the weekend. At the same time, a weak storm system will arrive from France and allow snow to fall.
While a major storm is not expected, there can be enough snowfall to cause areas of slippery travel from Bremen to Hamburg and Berlin. A little snow could also brush Berlin and Dresden.

"A band of steadier snow will develop across northern Germany later on Friday night and into Saturday that will produce general amounts of a coating to 2 cm (1 inch)," said AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Kristina Pydynowski.
"Berlin is expected to end up on the lower end of this range as the band should focus more on Lower Saxony, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein and western Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania."
Temperatures are not anticipated to rise much above zero C (32 F) in Berlin and Hamburg through Saturday, allowing snow to quickly accumulate and create slippery travel conditions.
“The snow could impact travel to and from Bundesliga matches across northeastern Germany on Saturday,” said AccuWeather Meteorologist Tyler Roys.
“Pitch conditions will also be impacted,” added Roys.

"Across southern Germany, any snow showers will tend to be spotty Friday night into Saturday morning with only few areas getting a quick coating," Pydynowski said.
While the cold remains entrenched farther north, Saturday afternoon will feature dry and milder conditions from Munich to Frankfurt and Cologne. Highs will range from 6-8 C (42-47 F).
Similar highs are anticipated on Sunday as dry weather dominates Germany underneath a mixture of clouds and sunshine.
The dry weather will hold through early next week as temperatures finally rebound across northern areas.
