MIDWINTER TECH REVIEW

Written by Friend of Our Facebook page (that can be accessed here) and blog Ronald Shawley.

The products I have reviewed below support storm chasers, astronomers, sportsmen, boaters and much more. If you have a product that you would like us to review please send us an e mail, with all the information on the product.

GERBER KNIVES

When Joseph R. Gerber described his young knife company, Gerber Legendary Blades, as the, “birth of an enterprise that grew into big business,” it was true, but it was an understatement for sure. What had started out in 1939 as a small batch of handmade cutlery sets given as holiday gifts had turned into thousands of retail accounts around the country. By 1960, Gerber had quickly become one of the most trusted, appreciated and collected names in knives. Like the men and women who carry our gear, Gerber is Unstoppable. Decades of innovation and dedication have put us here. Renowned as a master of knives and tools, Gerber’s problem-solving, life-saving products are designed with the unique needs of specific activities in mind. Today that includes much more than a blade.

Founded in 1939 and based in Portland, Oregon, USA, Gerber is an American brand whose products have global reach and relevance. Carried extensively by hunters, soldiers and tradesmen, Gerber’s heritage runs deep. And we are now looking toward the future, where tomorrow’s problems will be solved by the next generation of innovations. All Gerber products are designed and engineered in Portland, OR where many are produced. We also tap our global supply chain to create a wide range of activity specific gear for wide variety of consumers. And no matter what, every product that bears the Gerber name is backed by our famous lifetime warranty. Quality, reliability, innovation. For over 70 years this is what our customers have expected from us. And whether our products are used to save time, save the day, or save a life, Gerber always delivers. In the following video we look at one knife that is a fan favorite for storm chasers, backyard star watchers, and hobbyist.

CAPSTONE LIGHTS

Capstone Industries is a leader in the development, manufacture and distribution of Power Failure Solutions, and innovator of a variety of Safety and Security and Lighting products for the North American and Latin American retail markets. Capstone has been recognized for its innovations, particularly introducing Induction Charging technology into lighting products. This technology has now become mainstream and continues to enable the company to provide superior products at affordable pricing. We only know one way to do business… With quality! Our efficient Quality Control processes and our specialized resident Team with over 15 years of experience ensure all of our products exceed current market standards, and our factories are fully capable of meeting all compliance required by various distribution channels.

HOW WE GOT HERE

Capstone Industries recognized the Power Failure Solutions opportunity in 2007, and launched a strategic plan to expand the awareness of this category, which is driven by natural disasters as well as man-made occurrences. We as a company sought a technological advantage that had never been utilized in this category, and successfully invested in the potential of this underexploited area.

In 2009, Capstone recognized the need for high quality, high style power failure lighting solutions, and believed it was best positioned to continue its absorption of the market share. The company then expanded its power failure light offerings considerably with the introduction of strong new products. The results of such investment are technologically advanced innovations that communicate high quality and affordability, while also combining great style and reliability, as expected by today’s consumer.

As you can see in this video the products are fantastic. We have tested the lights and each one works like a champ. Say your outside watching the night sky with your telescope and you need that good light source to find equipment, Capstone has the light for you. You’re a storm chaser and it’s dark in your gear box or back of your truck, try the sensor light mounted to the roof of cab. The video we cover more details.

O-CEDAR PRODUCTS

Our History

The Channell Chemical Company started as a manufacturer of waxes and wood polishes, which were sold door to door in the early 1900s. One of the main ingredients in the polish was cedar leaf oil, which led to the product being called “O-Cedar Polish.” As the company expanded, so did the brand awareness of O-Cedar, and the name just stuck! We’ve dedicated our 100-year history to taking the “work” out of housework with a constant focus on innovation. We were the first to produce a self-wringing mop, to market the first angle broom, and to introduce the first spray mop to offer both disposable and machine washable microfiber pads! We wanted to show case the products from O-Cedar because they work great.

We have tested them on our storm chasing gear, everything from our vehicles, to our equipment. The same was tested on our astronomy gear as well. The micro fiber cloth work fantastic on keeping your telescope clean and free of dew build up at night. We mounted a Microfiber cloth right onto the base of scope allowing us to use it at any time. The microfiber cloth can also be used on your lens. In the video I talk about a few products, more to follow later, but this new spinning mop system is a work horse. Sure it cleans the floor but we have found a great use for it. In the winter you have traffic flow entering your building, tracking in wet snow and ice. Well, just leave the mop and spinning bucket nearby to aide in cleaning up the water etc. You use the mop to soak up water, then just spin it dry and use it again.

STAMPEDE PRODUCTS

Stampede Products Automotive Accessories was founded on the simple idea of designing and manufacturing the highest quality truck accessories from the best known materials, and delivering them to our customers in a timely manner. In our centrally located facility we have at our disposal the latest cutting edge design and manufacturing technology run by the best people in the business. The end result is that we are able to produce large quantities, efficiently and cost effectively without cutting any corners or compromising any of the high quality standards we have built our reputation on. Only the best... That's our attitude.

Today Stampede Products Automotive Accessories offers a full range of plastic accessory products for Cars, Light Trucks, Crossovers, SUV's and Vans. These include Hood Protectors (Bug Shields), Side Window Deflectors, Sunroof Deflectors, Fender Flares, Bed Rail Caps.

Whether you're an avid hunter or an outdoor enthusiast, show your passion with our Camo Series line of truck accessories featuring four different Camo patterns officially licensed from Mossy Oak® and Realtree® brand camo. In keeping with our commitment to quality we have taken great care to insure the detail and color of the patterns are reproduced to the highest standards possible. While conventional methods offered the visual quality we needed they did not offer the durability we demanded. With that in mind we developed the patterns for use with new processes in which the camo patterns are etched directly into the raw material itself, before the parts are formed. The end result is a product that retains all of the high resolution detail and color while also providing a high degree of scratch resistance, ultraviolet stability (colors will not fade in the sun) and resistance to common cleaning chemicals.

These products are a must if you’re a storm chaser or your astronomer, keeping your vehicle and line of sight open. In the month ahead, once we apply equipment to our AccuWeather Storm chasing truck, you will see just how useful these items can be, I cover a little more in the video attached.

HERCULINER KIT

I have used the Herculiner products on past vehicles and in short it not only saves you money , but it will protect your truck, car, boat, whatever you apply it to is going to be protected. Just a few notes I cover more in video. By applying Herculiner to your truck bed, your equipment is not going to slide around, your telescopes, your storm chasing gear will be well protected.

#1 Roll-On Bed Liner There's not another name in roll-on bed liners that can compare to the popularity AND durability of HERCULINER. For years, DIY'ers have trusted the #1 name in roll-on bed liners to protect their truck beds as well as many other applications. We were the first nationally-marketed DIY bed liner kit gaining success by offering a unique high-quality product that is designed to compete—at a fraction of the cost—with professionally installed spray-on and drop-in bed liners. As a result, HERCULINER is the #1 do-it-yourself bed liner. We're very proud of this! From day one, we've been the roll-on DIY bed liner kit and industry standard that competitors chase after—often copied but never duplicated! HERCULINER is the only polyurethane and rubber granule coating that is applied in just 3 easy steps to your truck bed using rollers and a brush (included in the kit). When cured, HERCULINER provides a tough, durable skid-resistant protective coating. Our proprietary solvent-based formula—versus a water-based product—allows HERCULINER to adhere better when cured to the surfaces it's applied to. Because of its unique properties, it can bond to virtually any surface or material.

HERCULINER can be applied to wood, metal, concrete, aluminum, asphalt, rubber, fiberglass, and most plastics, including PVC. Our product prevents rust by sealing the surface and is resistant to gasoline, oil, solvents and chemicals. And because HERCULINER can be applied to a variety of materials, HERCULINER has more than 101 uses. Our customers have used HERCULINER around the home and garage. 4x4 tubs, undercoating, concrete steps, boats, and trailers to name a few, have all been treated with HERCULINER to make a durable skid-resistant surface. Get some inspiration for you next HERC project by viewing our latest customer projects. -
