The first in a series of storms has already battered Portugal and Spain this week, and more heavy rainfall is expected.
The Lisbon and Porto regions were inundated by more than 100 mm (4 inches) of rainfall early this week and may receive another 100 mm (4 inches) or more of rain into Saturday.
More locally heavy rain spread into western parts of the Iberian Peninsula on Wednesday afternoon before dampening the remainder of the Iberian Peninsula on Thursday.
Widespread rainfall of 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) was reported across Portugal and western Spain from Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning.

This surge of heavy rainfall will track eastward across the remainder of Spain Thursday night, bringing an elevated risk of flash flooding and travel disruptions.
A final round of downpours will race across Portugal and Spain from Friday afternoon into Friday night.
Additional rainfall of 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) will be common across Portugal and western and central parts of Spain with lesser amounts near Spain's eastern coastline.
The hardest-hit locations across western Spain and Portugal will be at risk for 75-150 mm (3-6 inches) of rainfall with an AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 250 mm (10 inches).
These areas may endure severe flash flooding and widespread travel disruptions. In areas of rugged terrain, there will be a high risk of mudslides.
Some additional rainfall is possible across northern Portugal and northern Spain on Saturday before drier weather returns for the entire region on Sunday.
Southeastern France and northern Italy will be affected by a period of heavy rainfall late Thursday night into Friday night which may produce flooding and travel delays.
Rainfall amounts of 25-75 mm (1-3 inches) are expected with an AccuWeather Local StormMax™ of 150 mm (6 inches).
These areas have already endured multiple rounds of severe flooding in recent months.
