An earthquake struck eastern Indonesia around 11:30 p.m., local time, on Saturday, sending shock waves across the island.
The magnitude was originally reported to be 6.3, but was later revised to 6.0 by the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
The earthquake occurred on the northern side of Papua, about 88 miles to the west of Abepura, Indonesia.

As of late Saturday night, there have been no official reports of damage and there is no tsunami threat.
Northerly winds will help to increase moisture across the island in the coming days, causing daily showers and thunderstorms as any rescue and recovery efforts get under way. Storms can become heavy especially into the afternoon hours.
