The latest in a series of earthquakes and aftershocks struck off the southwest coast of Puerto Rico just before 9:00 a.m. on Saturday morning.
The center of the 5.9 earthquake is located about 8 miles south of Guanica, Puerto Rico, as reported by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), making it the second strongest quake to rattle the island over the past week. There was no threat for a tsunami.
The magnitude was originally reported as 6.0 by the USGS, but was later revised to a 5.9. Residents across the island reported feeling shaking.
As of Saturday morning, there are no official reports of damage; however, extensive damage has already occurred across the area due to earthquakes and continuous aftershocks in previous days.
Power outages were reported in Lares, Adjuntas, Ponce and San German, but efforts were underway to check infrastructure and restore service by the Autoridad de Energía Eléctrica.
The area is still recovering from a series of earthquakes throughout the month of January, including a 6.4 magnitude quake on Jan. 7.

Spotty showers and gusty winds will be in the area into the beginning of the week as rescue and recovery efforts continue in southwest Puerto Rico.
Sunday will mark the 10th anniversary of the devastating 7.0 magnitude earthquake in Haiti.
