Mikita’s leadership as Vice President, Content, earns her accolades as one of the best and brightest in the business for award celebrating individuals across every facet of the media industry

AccuWeather Global Weather Center, September 22, 2020 —AccuWeather today announced Trish Mikita, Vice President, Content, has been named by Cynopsis Media as one of its ‘Top Women in Media’ for 2020. Mikita, also a meteorologist, has been a leader at AccuWeather for nearly two decades and, oversees the media content and production team, with the responsibility of producing AccuWeather’s 24/7 linear television cable channel, the award-winning AccuWeather TV Network and all weather news content for accuweather.com.

According to Cynopsis, the ‘Top Women in Media’ award recognizes trailblazers who push the media industry forward while empowering and inspiring others. Those celebrated are among the most accomplished and driven within the industry, representing innovators, risk-takers and those instrumental in executing strategy in categories that cover entertainment, tech and sports media.

In her role at AccuWeather, the world’s most trusted weather brand and a premier “go to” weather source, Mikita  bolsters the company’s mission to save lives and protect property, while solidifying its place as an award-winning, digital media company that publishes compelling, informative and critical news weather content. Her leadership and vision have led to a 25 percent increase in content creation, a 125 percent increase in  everyday live coverage and a 250 percent increase of coverage during severe weather. Overseeing a staff of more than 40, Trish is also a key mentor to others within AccuWeather.

“Trish has been a valued colleague for nearly 20 years, and over that time has helped transform AccuWeather into one of the largest digital publishers and content creation brands,” said AccuWeather President Steven R. Smith. “She is an enthusiastic leader who continually blends innovative, visionary thinking with powerful strategic execution.  I am delighted Trish has been named for this prestigious award and can think of no one more deserving for the honor, which is very much earned 24/7, 365 days a year.”

Said Mikita, “I am thrilled to be recognized by Cynopsis for this important award that celebrates the hard work, innovation and contributions of so many talented women in our industry. AccuWeather continues to be a leader in the digital media and content space creating an extraordinarily welcoming environment to foster forward-thinking and game-changing ideas. I share this award with my talented team, who work diligently to tell a compelling story before, during and after the storm.”

Recently, Mikita oversaw the creation of AccuWeather Network’s coverage of the 74th anniversary of D-Day, entitled. “Weather Memories: D-Day Veterans Share Their Stories.” This segment brought to life stories from veterans who led the courageous charge on the beaches of Normandy, on how the weather impacted the battle. This programming subsequently earned the Cynopsis ‘Best of the Best Award’ for best ‘Short Form’ category.

In addition, she has led the effort to ensure that vital AccuWeather Network coverage continue, in light of responsible social distancing and other precautionary efforts in the age of COVID-19, with shifting personnel availability and reimagining how to execute coverage of severe weather events, upon which accuweather.com users and AccuWeather Network viewers rely on for, at times, life-saving information.
