AccuWeather Hurricane Expert Joins Reddit ‘Ask Me Anything’ for Session on 2020 Hurricanes and COVID-19
Live, interactive discussion to focus on active, ongoing hurricane season coupled with logistical challenges presented by Coronavirus, social distancing and overall best practices
AccuWeather Global Weather Center, June 16, 2020 — AccuWeather Expert Senior Meteorologist and lead forecaster on hurricanes and tropical storms Dan Kottlowski will participate in his first-ever ‘Ask Me Anything’ (AMA), hosted by Reddit, on June 18, 2020. For the session, Kottlowski will lead an engaging interactive, live discussion on the already active 2020 hurricane season amid the current pandemic caused by COVID-19. To join the conversation, Kottlowski will be posting in the r/IAmA subReddit for one hour at 1 pm EDT, or users can follow his Reddit profile at that time.
Kottlowski will spend the hour interfacing in real-time with Reddit community members on AccuWeather’s forecast for the Atlantic 2020 hurricane season. To date, the season has already logged three named storms, Arthur, Bertha and Cristobal, and is forecast to be “above normal” through the remainder of the season, which officially ends November 30. Adding to the complexity of this year’s ongoing hurricane season is the additional public health safety issue surrounding COVID-19. Kottlowski will address and take questions related to these intertwining challenges as well as best practices, tips and guidance on how to stay safe.
“I am excited and grateful to Reddit for this opportunity to leverage its impressive platform to reach even more members of the public on this important topic for greater awareness and safety," said Kottlowski. “This year presents unique challenges, and we should be diligent in our preparations so that people are not only safe from the storms during this already active season, but also aware of threats posed by the on-going COVID-19 outbreak. We will be tackling those issues head-on so that people take steps to minimize the impact and are prepared and safe before, during and after any storm that develops.”
Most recently, Tropical Storm Cristobal became the third named storm of this year’s hurricane season on June 2. This was the earliest that a named storm had arrived so soon in the season since the National Hurricane Center started naming storms in 1950. AccuWeather increased the number of hurricanes predicted for a ‘very active’ season in March. In that prediction, AccuWeather announced it expects 14 to 20 tropical storms with additions to the number of storms that become hurricanes: 7 to 11 this season.
Reddit AMA’s are an opportunity for verified experts to engage directly with community members on a range of issues.
