Leading innovator celebrates and encourages women to pursue STEM careers on AccuWeather Network, AccuWeather.com, social media #DressforSTEM and companywide.
AccuWeather Global Weather Center – March 8, 2018 – AccuWeather, the largest and fastest-growing source of weather forecasts and warnings with Superior Accuracy™ as well as a global leader of digital media and weather-related big data, celebrates and honors women in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields every day. Throughout the month of March, AccuWeather, an innovator and leader in STEM disciplines, plans a special series of initiatives and activities in solidarity with #DressforSTEM on Pi Day Wednesday, March 14th.
To show its support for these important initiatives, which encourage girls and women to pursue STEM learning and STEM careers, AccuWeather is encouraging its women meteorologists and all other employees to wear purple on and off camera March 14th. That day, the AccuWeather logo will change from AccuWeather orange to purple on AccuWeather.com web and mobile sites, the AccuWeather Network, and AccuWeather social media platforms. The AccuWeather Network, carried on the Verizon and Frontier cable systems, and AccuWeather.com will profile AccuWeather women working in meteorology who help to make AccuWeather the global leader in forecasts with Superior Accuracy™.
“Statistically and historically, women are and have been underrepresented in science-related fields,” said Elizabeth Soroka, Vice President, Human Resources for AccuWeather. “Beginning with our recruitment strategy and philosophy, AccuWeather has broadened our networks and candidate pools to attract more diversity, especially regarding women. Making diversity and inclusion an integral part of our people, processes, and strategy, AccuWeather welcomes women, LGBTQIA, people with disabilities, veterans, and others with racially diverse backgrounds, in keeping with our number one goal – to make AccuWeather’s team members the heart of our success.”
Celebrated globally, Pi Day was chosen for its date 3.14 reflecting the first three numbers of Pi. It is named for the Greek letter used in mathematics to represent a constant – the ratio of a circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.14159. Pi Day has become a day to support the contributions of people working in STEM fields and to encourage young women to consider the sciences for their own future careers. AccuWeather employees will wear purple to promote awareness of #DressforSTEM on Pi Day.
AccuWeather employees will also mark International Women’s Day March 8th by wearing purple. To see AccuWeather STEM content, check the AccuWeather Network, AccuWeather.com, and social media with #DressforSTEM March 14th.
