AccuWeather.com Introduces The Internet's Most Localized Real-Time Radar

(Chicago, IL, July 9, 2001) - AccuWeather.com, will unveil the most localized Internet weather radar to date at Internet World Chicago.

Metro Radar, a forecasting breakthrough, provides AccuWeather.com users and affiliated Web sites with hyper-local radar views capable of focusing as close as a 100 mile radius. Metro Radar enhances the wide array of free, real-time radar views provided by AccuWeather.com's real-time radars, which were introduced earlier this year, and provide information from all 146 individual Doppler radar sites in the 48 contiguous states.

Metro Radar allows users of AccuWeather.com to zoom in and focus on still radar views of the top 50 metropolitan areas in the U.S., and animate these views to watch storms approach local roads, county borders, towns and cities. Later this year, Metro Radar will be available for additional cities and towns. The service gives families planning outdoor activities, businesses sensitive to the weather, and organizers of community events information to make knowledgeable decisions based on approaching weather patterns posing a possible threat to local events.

"AccuWeather.com is a pioneer in providing the most comprehensive and timely weather content on the Internet," says Dr. Joel N. Myers, founder and president of AccuWeather, Inc. "With the introduction of Metro Radar, we are taking our customers to a higher level of weather awareness, offering radar views as local as their neighborhoods and counties."

AccuWeather.com was the first Internet weather site to offer real-time radar information from individual Doppler radar sites as well as from state, regional and national radar mosaics that combine data from the single sites to provide a portrait of approaching weather conditions. Now, with Metro Radar, AccuWeather.com is the first to provide radar maps that show weather as it approaches individual roads, towns, and counties, zooming even more locally than single site maps, providing the most localized radar information on the Internet.
