AccuWeather.com to Partner with Penn State Public Broadcasting to Produce WPSX-TV Morning Weather Segments
New Service to WPSX-TV Viewers to Begin in August
(State College, PA, July 6, 2004) - AccuWeather.com announced today a new partnership with WPSX-TV and the Penn State University Department of Meteorology's Weather Communications Group to produce morning weather segments on WPSX-TV. The new service will begin in August.
The morning weather presentations will be one minute long and will air several times on weekdays between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. These segments will feature detailed weather information and forecasts and will be presented by meteorologists that viewers are familiar with from WPSX's Weather World program, including AccuWeather.com Expert Senior Meteorologists Dr. Joe Sobel and Elliot Abrams.
These morning weather segments will be produced at AccuWeather.com's facilities in State College. AccuWeather.com is creating the weather updates for WPSX and Penn State free of charge and will be credited to AccuWeather.com as the source of the weather contribution during the segments.
"AccuWeather.com is pleased to be working with the Penn State Department of Meteorology and WPSX on this project, especially given that AccuWeather.com meteorologists including myself have appeared as on-air meteorologists on Weather World over the many years we have been associated with the program," said Dr. Joel N. Myers, Founder and President of AccuWeather. "This kind of partnership is a natural extension of AccuWeather's history of working with the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at Penn State, and also our dedication to providing detailed weather information to the general public."
Ted Krichels, general manager of Penn State Public Broadcasting and vice president for Penn State Outreach said, "WPSX-TV is committed to broadcasting up-to-date and accurate weather information to Pennsylvanians. We look forward to working with AccuWeather.com to provide this service to our viewers."
The morning weather features are a part of a new weather format for WPSX that includes a new version of its popular Weather World program. In the evenings at 7 p.m., Weather World now will be presented as part of Pennsylvania Inside Out, WPSX's new weekday community public affairs program. The Weather World evening segments will be produced at the Walker Building on Penn State's campus.
