Reports: Severe storms unleash damaging impacts across central US

Less than a week after deadly tornadoes struck the Midwest, another outbreak of severe weather threatens the central U.S. through Tuesday morning.
The thunderstorms are impacting areas from Indiana to Arkansas. The storms are unleashing damaging winds, hail, flooding downpours and isolated tornadoes.
Travel disruptions, property damage and power outages will occur as a result of the severe storms.

Fifteen injuries have been reported from a tornado that moved through Oak Grove, Missouri, on Monday night. No injuries are life threatening.

Local media reports that several airplane hangers were destroyed in the high winds and severe storms. KMBC News 9 said some airplanes at Johnson County Executive Airport were most likely damaged, as well as a handful that were flipped off the runway.

Widespread tree damage is being reported south of St. Louis as of 1:15 a.m. CST Tuesday. St. Louis airport reported a wind gust of 55 mph as the thunderstorms blew through.

KC&L has restored some customers with power. As of 12:15 a.m. CST Tuesday, the number of people affected by power outages dropped from 66,000 to about 52,000.

At 11:51 p.m. CST Monday, strong winds blew over two mobile homes in Wentzville, Missouri. Two people are trapped at this time, according to officials. A gas leak has been reported in the area.
At 12:06 a.m. CST Tuesday, an apartment complex in St. Peters, Missouri, just northwest of St. Louis, suffered severe damage as the siding was blown off the building.
At 12:14 a.m. CST, a tornado was confirmed in North Ladd, Illinois. The tornado is racing northeast at 65 mph.

Power outages have reached over 9,000 in Missouri as of 11:10 p.m. CST Monday. In Columbia, Missouri, part of a strip mall roof was blown off into the parking lot due to strong thunderstorm winds.
The threat for power outages and damage to trees and structures will continue as the storms move into St. Louis and Rolla early Tuesday morning.
The St. Louis Fire Department reports a overturned tractor trailer carrying 55 gallons drums and more than 40 boxes of corrosive material. A hazardous material team has been called to the scene. (Twitter/@STLFireDept)

As of 10:37 p.m. CST Monday, a new severe thunderstorm watch has been posted until 5:00 a.m. CST, which includes downtown Chicago.
At 10:28 p.m. CST, a trained spotter reported debris across I-80 from a possible tornado near Davenport, Iowa. A tornado was confirmed in Clinton County near Highway 30 in Dewitt, Iowa, at 10:31 p.m. CST.

At 9:05 p.m. CST Monday, a fallen tree was reported blocking the eastbound lane of I-90 in West Salem, Wisconsin. Wind gusts to 60 mph were reported just west of there in nearby La Crescent.

An NWS employee reported a possible tornado in Carrollton, Missouri, at 8:40 p.m. CST Monday. Over 7,400 Ameren, Missouri, customers lost power in northwestern portions of the state as the line of thunderstorms swept through.
Four tornado warnings remain in effect across the state as of 9:30 p.m. CST. At 9:24 p.m., an emergency manager in Nevada, Missouri, reported a possible tornado. Multiple power flashes were reported and law enforcement are being sent to the scene.
At 9:32 p.m. CST, officials reported a tornado south of Bevier, Missouri, along with wind gusts over 60 mph.

There has been a confirmed tornado with that storm in Clinton County, Iowa. A trained spotter reports the tornado is located near Highway 30 in Dewitt, Iowa, at 10:31 p.m. CST. The number of power outages in Kansas City has spiked with over 66,000 without electricity as of 8:40 p.m. CST Monday, according to KCP&L.
Severe thunderstorms have also led to over 8,000 power outages across Iowa, according to MidAmerican Energy.
Power outages may continue to rise across Iowa as storms continue to race eastward across the state. One severe thunderstorm produced a wind gust of 90 mph in Belle Plaine, according to emergency managers. A tornado also damaged multiple structures in Wayne, Iowa, according to emergency managers.

As of 8:25 p.m. CST Monday, over 26,000 electric customers were without power in Kansas City, according to KCP&L.
The worst of the storms have already moved through the city with a confirmed tornado located east of Kansas City near Oak Grove, Missouri, and moving eastward at 60 mph.

There have been many reports of large hail around Kansas City, especially north of the city where hail larger than golf balls have been measured.
A tornado may have also touched down near Trimble, Missouri, leading to significant property damage.

At 7:10 p.m. CST Monday, there were two severe thunderstorms capable of producing a tornado north of Kansas City. One storm was located near Leavenworth, Kansas, and the other was located near Saint Joseph, Missouri.
Another storm located just southwest of Kansas City is strengthening and may soon be capable of producing a tornado.

At 6:40 p.m. CST Monday, a line of severe thunderstorms was headed toward Des Moines, Iowa. The primary threats in the city will be blinding downpours, frequent lightning and wind gusts past 60 mph.

There have been several confirmed tornadoes with the thunderstorms west of Topeka, Kansas. Tornadoes have been reported near the towns of Saint Marys, Paxico and Belvue.
As of 6:10 p.m. CST, several thunderstorms embedded in the line of storms were still capable of producing tornadoes.

As of 5:40 p.m. CST Monday, there were two severe thunderstorms capable of producing tornadoes west of Topeka, Kansas.

There have been numerous reports of large hail in south-central Minnesota west of Minneapolis. There has also been a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado in this part of the state; however, as of 5 p.m. CST, no tornado has been reported.

At 4:21 p.m. CST Monday, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was heading toward Fenton, Iowa.

At 3:40 p.m. CST Monday, a line of severe thunderstorms was moving into Omaha, Nebraska. These thunderstorms have a history of producing winds up to 70 mph and hail as large as quarters.
