Photos: Snow Drifts, Sun Pillar, More
I want to quickly highlight some of the recent photos that have been uploaded to our Photo Gallery.
First, we have a new user named Ray who has uploaded dozens of high quality photos under the moniker naturesmasterpieces. WeatherMatrix Member Kevin Skow, a.k.a. weatherbum (our top uploader, with over 300 photos online) uploaded a great set yesterday showing various wind-blown snow drifts in his home state of North Dakota.
He also captured a sun pillar. This effect is created when the sun's rays pass through ice crystals (more in-depth info on sun pillars). weatherbum's most recently uploaded photos are shown below; click here to see his entire gallery.
Speaking of optical effects, The Flow snapped a great corona picture after a long day of skiing last week. Coronae (not to be confused with the sun's outer atmosphere of the same name) form not unlike halos, as light diffuses through water or ice droplets (more in-depth info on coronae).
