Below Zero Temps Today Will Be Last in NE
UPDATE: I added a tweet Sunday describing the cold in the Northeast: Yesterday 10+ below norm; Wind chills 0-20 this AM; Only Florida above 60
Temperatures fell below zero in northern New England last night, with below-freezing temperatures stretching to the Carolinas. Joe Bastardi from our Pro site says this morning: "It is the coldest morning in the eastern US till next cold season as no cold can get back into the pattern in these places until the normals are up so high it would be impossible to get it this cold. Winter, or the threat of winter, is done for most places from the Mississippi east."
The map above, showing temperatures at 7 AM, doesn't tell the whole story; here's a list of the coldest readings I could find, in the typical cold places:
Clayton Lake, Maine: -11.6
Mount Washington, NH: -2
Saranac Lake, NY: 4
Old Mountain, Pennsylvania: 11
Here at my station in Central PA my station only fell to 19, which is not by any means record breaking for this time of year.
